I'm looking for someone to show me my place in all this.

From a young age Rey's life has been a bit complicated. Abandoned at age 5 during her Chemo treatments Rey ended up in the home of Maz Kanata where she met her best friend and foster brother Niklaus Taylor.Niklaus, who was mute due to trauma that he had suffered at the hands of his father taught Rey basic sign language and the two were thick as thieves until Rey turned 12.Shortly after her 12th birthday, Rey met an elder gentleman claiming to be her grandfather, Ben Kenobi. At this point, Rey had given up searching for her parents and had resigned to staying with Maz until she and Niklaus aged out of the system. Grandpa Ben was kind and took in both Rey and Niklaus because Rey had refused to leave without her best friend.The two spent the next 6 years flourishing at Grandpa Ben's homestead in Washington State. When Rey turned 18 she was accepted into a Horticulture degree program and Niklaus was accepted into a Teaching degree program a few hours away.She met her first serious boyfriend at 19 and while still maintaining a good standing with her school and grades delved into the party scene as many do on a college campus.When she started a serious relationship with a boy in her biology class, she had visited a specialist to get on some sort of contraception. It was brought up that while Rey had never had sex previously, she had never had a period either, something that her doctors hadn't thought odd because of her previous cancer diagnosis and treatment. After some concerns and extensive testing from the doctor's offices she visited it was determined that precautions had not been taken when she was young and irreparable damage had been done. She could not, naturally, have children of her own.While this news bothered her she was okay with this because she had family in her grandfather and everything else could come with time.On the way to Commencement for Niklaus' graduation, Rey and Grandpa Ben were hit head on by a drunk driver. Grandpa Ben died instantly. Rey suffered a broken collarbone, 3 broken ribs, and a broken leg.The depression of her grandfather's death caused her to spiral into a terrible habit of drinking and abusing her pain medication to feel numb as she tried to avoid the pain.After she didn't respond to her therapist's calls a welfare check was done and Rey was found by the police officers and social workers having overdosed on her pain medications. Rey spent the next 6 months in a mental health hospital overcoming her addiction and the loss of her grandfather while also gaining her strength and healing from her physical injuries.Grandpa Ben’s property was split between Rey and Niklaus and they both decided to sell the Washington homestead and head to the East Coast to see what it would bring them.After a year of consistent watch and no relapses Niklaus and Rey finally split from one another but not far. Rey stays at the Kenobi homestead while Nik lives in town teaching at the local elementary school. Rey still sees a therapist weekly but she now owns her own floral and produce shop and loft in NYC/Applicable location. She doesn’t drink and rarely parties for fear of doing something stupid that will cause her to relapse again.A lot of her personality is based on the experiences of her past. She’s grateful to be alive and does her best to make sure that no one ever has to feel the way she has felt in the past.
